How to cook Crab

Needless to say, opening day was a success

To be brief; Bring saltwater to boil and place crab in. Bring back to boil and cook for 20 minutes.

Crab is very easy to cook. Hands down best way is to boil/steam your crabs whole. The yellow butter/fat that they hold in their bodies is vital to get that perfect salty crab taste.

Start your pot boiling and add salt until your water is about as salty as the water you just caught them from (due to red tides and overall nasty water don’t bring home saltwater from the sound).

Grab your bucket, and scrub those bad boy crabs a bit as they can be a bit dirty, at least rinse them off before plunging them (live) into the water.

Side note: some people don’t like the idea of boiling alive, but I assure you it is the fastest way they seem to die. Even with multiple stabs in the head with a knife, shell pulled off, and cut in half those legs and pincers will still be moving for a long time if that’s your route to kill and clean them.

Make sure they’re submerged whole. I’ve seen some people with nice steaming operations but I’ve always just fully boiled them and it turns out just fine.

It’ll take sometimes five minutes to bring back to boiling, but I like to make sure the whole pot boils for 20 minutes, some people do 20 minutes in the water and that’s probably fine but I like to be safe.

Pull out crabs one by one and cool under cold running water. This will stop the internal cooking and I don’t know about you but after crabbing all day I’m pretty hungry and like to get straight to the eating.

Save some of the brine if you wish and mix with garlic and butter for a delicious dip, or just eat plain from the shell, it’s delicious no matter what.

Me and my buddies recently found some excellent recipes i’ll share soon, basically it’s very hard to screw up crab, it’s natural flavor is just so phenomenal.

Back to the water, time to get more!
